BOOK REVIEW: The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone

Take. Massive. Action.

If I could sum up The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone in three words it would be that…take massive action. This book is all about creating above average results by operating at 10x the norm.

What does “10X” even mean? Well, it’s different for every person. At it’s core, 10X is a multiplier. It’s about being unreasonable. It’s about going above and beyond the call of duty. It’s about creating more wealth, success and happiness than you could ever want or need. It’s about shooting for the stars. At least, that’s what it means to me.

Let me set the stage here, The 10X Rule is hands-down my favorite book! I want to tell you that upfront so you know where my bias lies as I write this review. No other book has helped me in my own life as much as this book, or Grant Cardone as a person. So that’s that, now let’s dive in…

The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone is a life changing book. As helpful as it is just reading it one time, the magic lies in the repetition! This book is all about setting massive goals, putting in massive amounts of effort, and creating massive results because of it. You are basically given permission to think and dream bigger, which believe it or not, a lot of people need (myself included).

Grant discusses why average thinking and society are broken, and why massive think is the only way to ensure success. But it doesn’t end at your mind, ensuring success also requires massive action! He argues against middle class thinking, which is actually a dream for some people. Grant actually says it’s unethical to strive just to be in the middle class, because even then are can only take care of yourself and your family. But simply living just to take care of yourself and family is not only selling yourself short, but it’s also selfish. We are all capable of so much more, and we should be trying to not only take care of ourselves, but help everyone that we can in the world. Changing the world is 10X, baby!

Uncle G (as he’s known) discusses the 4 different types of action:

  1. Do nothing
  2. Retreaters
  3. Normal levels of action
  4. Massive action

Taking no action is actually an act in it of itself, it’s the act of not acting. Think about that! Retreaters are actually taking action, just in reverse. This level of action is basically the act of stopping yourself from taking action. It’s fighting positive energy with negative energy to create a net-neutral result. Normal levels of action are just keeping up with the crowd. Grant says this is the most dangerous because normal action would lead you to believe that you’re making progress and doing well, but never quite get you so financial freedom.

And then there’s MASSIVE ACTION! The formula for massive action is to take normal levels of action, and multiply that by 10x. Here are a few examples:

  • Normal Action – $100,000
  • Massive Action – $1,000,000
  • Normal Action – Make 20 sales calls
  • Massive Action – Make 200 sales calls
  • Normal Action – Write 1 blog article a week
  • Massive Action – Write 10 blog articles a week
  • Normal Action – Stream live 2 times per month
  • Massive Action – Stream live 20 times per month
  • Normal Action – Eat 1 donut
  • Massive Action – Eat 10 donuts

Do you get it? 10X = Massive Action. You take normal action and crank that mutha times 10! That’s 10X. Just multiply everything you do 10x and you can’t miss. It’s like throwing darts and expanding the bullseye so it’s 10x bigger. By setting a higher standard and putting in more effort, you are giving yourself the best chance to success. What this does is puts you in position to success no matter what the economy is doing, no matter what is happening in the world. Operating at this level will ensure that you succeed no matter what!

Another great takeaway is the 32 traits of success that Grant lays out in chapter 22. He himself has studied some of the brightest minds in the world including Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Elon Musk. He takes all of their knowledge and habits, combined it with what he knows to be true from creating massive amounts of his own success, and unveils the keys to success. Some of the main traits are courage, discipline and consistency.

Putting it all together, this book is about thinking bigger and taking massive action. There is as much actionable material in The 10X Rule as there is motivation, and let me tel you this thing is packed with motivation! As I mentioned before, don’t just read this book once. You have to keep reading it, at least once every few months. The topic of constantly pushing yourself needs to be repeated in order to create consistent success, but the motivation to maintain such high output can fade from time to time. You’re doing yourself a disservice by only reading this book once.

HOT TIP: Get the audio book version of The 10X Rule as well. Uncle G reads all of his books himself, and always over-delivers by adding adding commentary that you find find in the book. Not to mention this is a great audio book to listen to while you workout. 🙂

Bottom line, this is an instant classic. Easily 5 stars. This is one of those books that changes life because it challenges your thinking, and if you learn to think differently you can change your life. Thoughts lead to beliefs, beliefs lead to actions, actions lead to results. Get this book and take your life to a new level!

Make an impact,

Jake
