Why You Shouldn’t Listen To Friends And Family (unless they’re rich)

Have you ever wanted to try something new?

And when you did, did you get so excited that you just had to tell someone?

And you went and told the people closest to you thinking that they would also get excited and support you?

But you were actually hit with doubt, negativity and bad advice?

The reason? They love you, and don’t want to see anything bad happen to you. And they believe that you will fail if you try something new.

Aaaaand you probably will, by the way. 🙂

What most people don’t realize (friends and family in this case) is that you USUALLY have to fail before you can succeed, and that an initially failure is just part of the process.

Their job shouldn’t be to put your idea down, but rather to encourage you to keep going when you do fail.

By the way, that’s also your job when your friends and family tell you about a new endeavor.

Ok back to your situation….

You should only take advice from people that have been successful in the field that you want to go into.

If it’s a certain sport, mode the most successful 1-2 athletes in that sports.

If it’s investing, mode the top 2-3 investors in the sector that you want to invest in.

If it’s a new business, model how the biggest businesses started out, and how they scaled up.

You get it? You should never take advice from anybody that hasn’t done something themselves. They don’t always need to be the top person in their field, but you want your mentor to at least have a consistent track record of success.

What I’m saying is, don’t take advice from Uncle Bob the painter on how to pitch your new software idea to investors. Cool?

Read books, buy programs, watch videos, learn everything you can, any way you can, from people that have already done it!

Now go learn something new and be great!
