“Leave your ego at the door.”
“Nobody likes a big ego.”
Basically, you’re a JERK if you have a big ego!
Ever heard any of these before? Of course you have, because nobody has a positive view of the word EGO in general…
But WHY???
Let me start by telling you the very definition of the word “ego”…
“a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance.”
Based on this definition, a person’s ego is based on their own self-esteem and self-worth. Doesn’t seem so bad, does it?
Maybe we just VIEW the ego incorrectly
Back to the reason why there is such a negative outlook on “having a big ego”, here’s what I came up with…
Most people think loving yourself is selfish, and nobody wants to be viewed as selfish.
But this isn’t at all what it means based on the definition above. Having a big ego ACTUALLY means that you love yourself and are confident in your abilities!
Size of Ego = how much you like yourself
So it turns out that it’s actually a GOOD thing to have a big ego, because it’s a measure of how much you really trust yourself, how much you like the person that you are, and how much self-confidence you have!
We all SHOULD cultivate a big ego! We shouldn’t tell ourselves that we aren’t “good enough”, or we are “natural leaders”, or we aren’t “made for greatness.”
Everybody on this planet is made to be great…to be winners. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should SETTLE for being average!
Don’t be afraid to express your opinion
By the way, that’s what everyone is doing anyway. That’s what the news is, that’s what YouTube is, that’s what your boss does, that’s what your parents did when raising you…you get the picture.
Not everybody is going to agree with you, just like YOU don’t agree with everybody else. AND THAT’S OK!!!
The point is you are ALLOWED to put ourself out there.
You are ALLOWED to love yourself.
You are ALLOWED to be the expert.
You are ALLOWED be a freaking boss!
And you are allowed to come off as arrogant to others. It won’t kill you, nd it won’t kill the people that dislike you for that.
By the way, haters never hate because you are doing wore than them, they hate because they can’t get to your level. 🙂
Can your ego push you too far?
Of course it can, don’t be an idiot.
But it’s not really because you think too highly of yourself, it’s because you’re just a jerk. These are completely separate things…
It’s 100% possible to have a big ego and help people at the same time!
But here’s the thing…you can’t help someone else until you help yourself. You need to have the confidence IN YOURSELF that you can even help them!
Doesn’t sound too bad to me…
In summary
I hope I’ve changed your mind on the word “ego”, and how your should perceive the ego moving forward.
Your ego is something to cultivate and use to your advantage, not something that is bad or shameful…
