Powerful Persuasion Relies on Conviction

No I’m not talking about being convicted and locked up in the slammer… I’m talking about conviction!

Conviction in your product. Conviction in your company, Conviction in yourself. Conviction is really what sells, not the words you say.

Why Conviction Sells Better than Words

Think of the most persuasive people you know about, what do they have in common?

As you can probably see now thinking about them while reading an article on conviction, they are all very “sure” about themselves and their message, right?

They are sure that what their providing works, what their saying is correct, what their doing is the right thing, and you can actually FEEL this from them!

Imagine you’re a consumer and talking to two different sales reps…

Sales rep #1 is telling you about their product, but while doing so they sound like they are trying to describe their new boyfriend/girlfriend that they know you won’t approve of.

They might be trying to oversell them, have some uncertainty in their own voice because they are thinking about their boo boo’s flaws, and they start to get a little skittish.

Now think about talking to sales rep #2 who is telling you about their product, and while doing so sounds like someone who just fell 3 stories off a building telling you about the laws of gravity.

They know for sure that what they are telling you is the truth, they sound confident that what they’re telling you their product can do for you is fact, and you feel a level of certainty within you because of the way they are communicating with you.

Are you picking up what I’m putting down here?

How to Gain More Conviction

If you want to gain more conviction when selling your product or service (and you definitely do), you need to start with this extremely simple thing…

Only focus on the positive aspects of your product, and only focus on the success stories of your clients!

Basically your goal is to block out the bad information and focus on the good information. And you need to do this DAILY.

It’s the negative information that makes you second guess things. You just have to realize that no product is perfect, no person is perfect, and there will always be people that can find fault in everything.

By thinking like this, you’ll be able to better focus on the positives of what you’re offering, and speak with more conviction when talking about how you can help them!

P.S. Something I’ve learned along the way that also helps gain conviction is this…

You don’t have to be right to everybody. Again, you don’t have to be RIGHT TO EVERYBODY. And one more time, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE RIGHT TO EVERYBODY!

Think about what that really means, and your entire world will open up… 🙂
