You’ve probably heard the saying “People buy from salespeople they like and trust.”
And this can totally be true! But that alone doesn’t get you the sale.
How many prospects have you built a great relationship with that never bought from you?
Or better, out of those people that liked you and never bought from you… How many completely ghosted you when they decided not to buy your product?
What’s More Important then a Relationship?
Adding value by solving a problem for somebody is the single most important thing you could do for a customer!
That’s priority #1 no matter what. Because guess what? You actually create a relationship when you add value to someone’s life.
You might be saying to yourself… “Yeah, but I wouldn’t buy from a salesperson or company I don’t like no matter what!”
Truth! You would only do that if you absolutely had to and there was no other option.
You also wouldn’t buy a minivan from your best friend if you wanted a sports car, right? But you might buy the sports car if your dreams from a salesperson you didn’t really like, right?
The Fast Lane to a Relationship
Aside from adding value by solving a problem for someone, the only other requirements for a solid business/personal relationship are this…
Be authentic, transparent and positive. So basically don’t try to scam customers for a one-time, but instead think about doing business with that person for 10+ years!
That’s the mindset that you need to have so your human desires of greed and scarcity don’t take over, which usually cause you to withhold information or re-frame things against the customer’s best interest.
The Bottom Line
Relationships on their own do NOT make sales. You aren’t trying to make friends, you’re trying to offer value and solve problems. That’s it!
When you’re the type of person that YOU would want to do business with, and you solve problems for people, you will build lasting relationships.
Remember, always be thinking that you want to work with someone for 10+ years, and that mindset alone will point you in the right direction!
