“How you treat one person is how you treat everyone.”
You might have heard that saying before. If not, you’ve surely heard the golden rule…
“Treat people how you would like to be treated.”
These are not just cute little sayings, but this is your reality!
And not just because of the mystical laws of the universe, but because humans are great mirrors. They will give you back what they get – both the good and the bad.

So just imagine how you treat someone cleaning bathrooms compared to how you treat the CEO of a Fortune 500 company…
Even if you don’t mean to, you automatically assign more importance to the CEO, and it’s a very conscious decision to try and treat both people the same – at least at first.
But I can tell you this, your reputation is formed from every single interaction that you have with anybody!
So it truly pays (literally) to treat everyone like the richest, most powerful person on the planet.
Oh and by the way, YOU should also treat yourself the same way!
Case Studies
As a salesperson selling B2B, I talk to a lot of entrepreneurs and business leaders every day, whether it’s on the phone or over email.
I can tell you that the most successful business leaders always stay in communication with me, and the smallest business leaders treat me like crap.
You might be thinking “Yeah, but you’re just a sales guy trying to sell them something. Of course they don’t treat you great!”
That’s exactly how those small business owners think too, so they don’t think they have any obligation to communicate with me until they want to.
And that’s be fair for someone who assigns different importance to different types of people.
But what a lot of people fail to realize is that they are grooving in the idea that they can treat people like they aren’t important, and that Carrie’s over to how they treat THEIR customers!
It immediately becomes clear why they have a small business and have to tru and compete solely on price.
Where-as had they tried to treat the salesperson (me in this case) like someone who was their equal, they would groove that into every interaction they have!
It Will Never Be All Rainbows And Sunshine
Now I do realize that humans will never treat everyone the same, because we are wired with a certain hierarchy of importance in mind.
And that’s a good thing, because this presents a HUGE opportunity for you to differentiate yourself from the competition!
This clearly works, because the big players charge high dollars for big value, and your attitude and how you treat someone is the cheapest way to provide a ton of value!
So remember this the next time you’re interacting with a new prospect, a salesperson, a janitor, a mechanic, and stock trader, a CEO, your family, absolutely everybody that you come into contact with.
Treat them like they’re important, treat yourself like you’re important, and you’ll have an immediate advantage over 99% of the market – and even the human race. (Drastic? Yes)
